I uncovered my passion for music during my first band lesson in grade school. From that point on, music has been intertwined in all facets of my life.
I followed my dream to LSU and graduated from college with a degree in History, Communications, and English, and a minor in Music Education.
I find inspiration all around me, and I try to make my music representative of myself and my passion.
Electric bassist Louis Wright has been performing professionally, first in his hometown of New Orleans and later throughout the country, since he was 16. Described as lyrical and melodic, Wright has taken a fresh approach to his instrument, buoyed by years of formal, classical training.
At 10, Wright began playing trumpet in grade school ensembles. He quickly changed instruments - first to euphonium and trombone, and later to tuba - as he matured as a musician and became more serious about his studies. Through his high school years, Wright auditioned for and made All-District seven times, and All-State three. He won many medals as a soloist in Louisiana Music Educators Association competitions and was voted band captain of his decorated high school band, which was chosen to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in his senior year. During that year, he was also awarded Outstanding Bassist at both the Loyola Jazz Festival and Southeastern Jazz Festival.
He received a music scholarship to LSU as a brass major and was a part of the marching band, brass choir, symphony, and various classical ensembles.
At 17, jazz moved to the forefront of Wright's interests, and he began playing bass in LSU's jazz ensembles, receiving valuable experience from gigging with some of his professors. At LSU, he studied under Larry Campbell, Willis Deloney, and Bill Grimes. While at LSU, Wright received degrees in History, Communications, and English, with a minor in Music Education. He was inducted into the venerable music fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi.
He performed throughout his adult years, playing both jazz gigs and working a several-year stint on the famous Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Wright has performed with such famous names as Ellis Marsalis, Bill Watrous, Gene Bertoncini, Blood, Sweat, & Tears; Fats Domino; KC and the Sunshine Band; Earth, Wind, & Fire, BJ Thomas, The Bellamy Brothers, Doug Stone, Tommy Alvarez, Walt Wilkins, Marcia Ball, Robert Earl Keen, Stoney Larue, Foster and Lloyd; Glen Campbell, John Schneider (Bo Duke), Mike Zito, Phil Kenzie, Walker Hayes, Dumpstaphunk, Niko Moon, Scotty McCreery, Eli Young Band, and others.
He has also studied with three-time-Grammy-winning-bassist John Patitucci.
Wright was a founding member of The Boogie Men, a wildly popular and successful 10-piece horn band in New Orleans, started in 1994 and still working a full schedule regularly.
Wright was the MD for the band which won the prestigious Billy Bob's recording contest in Fort Worth, TX, from 47 bands entered in 2012. Through winning that competition, his band was able to secure a contract for a live double CD, a live DVD performance, and an opening spot at Willie Nelson's legendary annual Family Picnic.
Wright has also been a lecturer/clinician of a masterclass of graduate students in the Tuba/Euphonium Studio at the University of Texas. He was also a guest lecturer at LSU for Introductory jazz.
Wright has recently brought his talents into Nashville, performing with recording artists across the region and beyond.
He plays 6-string basses, 6-string fretless basses, electric-acoustic basses, and upright bass.
He is endorsed by Regenerate Guitar Works.
Wright is also currently negotiating a recording deal as lead jazz bass.
Wright also has recently been offered a prestigious endorsement deal with DNA Amplification, founded by David Nordschow, who is also the founder of David Eden Amps.
He is a signed artist with ACE Management and is the American music director for Quebec-based artist Vanessa Lavoie and White Lion Audio/Sony Music.
